For anyone that has been a fan of
my website will probably recall me advertising how shy and introverted I was
and how I never left the house. So how would I go from that to a
stage, you ask? I will share the story of how it began. A lady that my mom worked with was planning a comedy night for the singles group at their church. My mom, being the mom that she is, suggested that this lady contact me to do stand-up comedy. I had never done anything of the sort, but I have been a fan of stand-up comedy for some time, and I have always enjoyed being the comic relief in a group. The gig was suppose to be for less than a dozen people in a small coffee-shop type environment. I initially declined the idea because it sounded so absurd, but then my curiosity got the best of me. It could be a complete disaster, but hey, I will never see these people again, right? I committed. The introvert is not only going to leave the house, but he is also going to get on stage. I don't know what happened, how it happened, or when it happened....but the deal changed. What was suppose to be a dozen people turned into an event that was opened to the whole church. I drove into the parking lot to see cars parked everywhere. I hoped that there was another event scheduled for the same evening, even hoped that maybe the comedy event was canceled. No such luck. If anyone needs a great publicist, contact the lady who orchestrated this event because the twelve people turned into about 200-300 people. If I could've melted right there on the spot than I could not have been happier. I wasn't prepared for this. My heart was racing, my hands were shaking, and then when they introduced my name I could not believe this was really happening. One awkward foot after another and I eventually found myself on stage....
Now I am looking to see where this takes me. I've done several events at Church and even performed at the homeless shelter, but I am open to expand my opportunities. Please contact me if you are interested in talking about comedy possibilities in the future.
